Off The Rails

RESTAURANT & BAR WOODSTOCK, GA

Woodstock grew up along a railroad, and Off The Rails remembers it. Designed by Ashley Schneider as a ground-up kitchen and bar, the room takes its cues from the Orient Express at the turn of the last century — the era when the journey itself was the destination.

The vault. The groin-vaulted ceiling announces the idea and was central to the concept from the beginning: a ceiling with the grandeur of a golden-age railway hall, drawing the eye upward before the details draw it back down. Below it, cognac leather banquettes recall Pullman upholstery, navy velvet lounge chairs deepen the palette and gold art panels supply the glint.

The journey through. From the bar, the rooms unfold the way a trip does. A wine cellar is staged for a small moment of discovery, then come the dining room, the patio and the kitchen, each carrying the period's warmth without ever lapsing into costume.

The sum of its parts. The brand was conceived with the rooms rather than applied to them. There isn't a piece of Off The Rails Ashley didn't touch — from the vault overhead to the flowers on the tables, the identity, the interiors, the millwork, lighting, drapery, signage, furniture and glassware were developed as one idea and carried from concept through construction to opening night. It is a holistic approach, and the room reads that way.
