A one-bedroom Sugar Hill residence where black leather, aged brass, vintage textiles, animal art, and sculptural furnishings create the feeling of a home collected over time.
THE COMMISSION
A Small Home Given the Whole of Someone’s Attention
West Broad is a one-bedroom home, but Ashley approached it as a complete environment rather than a collection of isolated rooms. The living area, kitchen, dining nook, and primary bedroom needed to share one point of view while still changing naturally with the purpose of each space.
Every piece was selected for this home. Black leather, aged brass, dark wood, velvet, vintage pattern, and animal imagery establish a confident foundation, while cream upholstery, pale marble, and natural light prevent the smaller footprint from feeling heavy.

THE LIVING ROOM
Collected, Not Decorated
The living room is held together by materials that look better with age. A black leather sofa, oversized brass drum table, Persian rug, brown velvet drapery, and dark wood create depth without requiring a large room.
The animal-art gallery wall gives the space its personality. A gilded bull skull, framed studies, metallic accents, and the arched display cabinet make the room feel assembled through years of good judgment, even though each piece was chosen specifically for this home.
DINING + KITCHEN
The Palette Keeps the Plan Connected
The open kitchen and dining area carry the living room’s materials forward at a lighter volume. Brass returns in the globe pendant and geometric mirror; leather appears on the dining bench; the cowhide rug introduces another natural pattern beneath the marble table.
White Shaker cabinetry, handcrafted zellige tile, pale upholstery, and open wood shelving keep the compact plan bright. The rooms do not match, but the repeated materials allow them to read as one continuous home.
THE PRIMARY BEDROOM
The Same Point of View, Turned Inward
The primary bedroom lowers the energy without abandoning the home’s character. An arched brass canopy bed gives the room a clear center, while geometric bedding, animal pattern, brown velvet drapery, dark wood, and a mud-cloth rug continue the collected palette.
The room is quieter than the living area, but not anonymous. Ceramic lamps, an abstract round mirror, brass details, and layered textiles make the private space feel settled and personal rather than simply neutral.
THE RESULT
A Small Home With Nothing Treated as Small
West Broad feels complete because the design never treats the home’s footprint as a limitation. Every room receives a distinct composition, but the same materials, tones, and visual references continue from the living room through the kitchen and into the bedroom.
The result is personal without becoming crowded, expressive without relying on excess, and unified without asking every room to repeat the same idea.
It is a small home given the whole of someone’s attention, and it shows.
